5 Top Insomnia Symptoms

from:

Insomnia symptoms are not distinctive, though the chances of occurrence are high if you experience all or most of them at the same time. Feeling tired and sleepy during the day is an important and possible sign of insomnia. This can also happen after an especially stressful day, or if you have had an especially calorific lunch.

However, you should suspect that something is wrong, if you notice a pattern of tiredness right from the moment of awakening, on a regular basis. You should know that high blood sugar or a hormonal deficiency can also produce similar symptoms, so do not jump to a conclusion about insomnia without checking things with your doctor.

Your partner or spouse can provide hints of your possible insomnia, by telling your doctor and you about your sleep behavior. Loud snoring, repeated awakening, and restlessness, could be signs of insomnia, of which you are not fully aware once you get out of bed. However, you will know if you lie awake for any length of time, or if you have to empty your bladder frequently. The latter however, may have nothing to do with insomnia.

Insomnia Types

A much clearer sign of insomnia is to awake completely at an unusual hour, and fail to go back to sleep thereafter. This third sign of possible insomnia has a variation, which may be treated as a fourth symptom: you may find it difficult to fall asleep in the first place, and lie wide awake for long periods after lying in your bed. These things can happen once in a while, as when you cross time zones, but in most cases, a sleep disorder probably prevails, and needs attention. You could try simple remedies such as sleeping in a different place, or to confront issues which may trouble you, seek professional counsel as that is the best course of action in such cases.

Irritability is a sign of insomnia, though difficult colleagues or acquaintances could also be to blame for this. You may not realize that your productivity and inter-personal skills have fallen off, and people around you could also fail to realize what is behind your change in behavior. Insomnia symptoms may have either physical or mental origins, and this fifth and important symptom of insomnia is one of the most difficult for anyone to detect.

How to Deal with Insomnia Symptoms

Insomnia symptoms may come and go, and not every episode needs to be treated seriously. It always helps if you are conscious of changes in your sleep and work patterns, because some simple steps can produce amazing results. However, persistent or severe insomnia symptoms need professional attention, and it may be in your best interests to see your physician at the earliest.
